Need a Good Inexpensive Vacuum?
By · Comments
Last year we blogged about a good cheap vacuum for your home or office. We decided to highlight that blog post again this year for the holiday gift shoppers looking for a good yet inexpensive vacuum.
I still cant say enough about the Bissell Momentum Cyclonic Upright Vacuum
Available online at Amazon and Newegg , and I have seen them in local stores Target, WalMart and BigLots. The Bissell Momentum Cyclonic Upright Vacuum has better suction then the infamous Dyson, no bags to buy and all the extra tools you’ll ever need. And best yet, no internal filters to clog. The popularity of bagless vacuums can be over hyped when uninformed home owners bring home their new Hoover or Eureka only to discover the half way through there home the new “bagless” vacuum looses most of it’s suction due to a clogged filter or in some cases, filters.
Who wants to wash a filter out every time you vacuum up after Chompers and Mr Whiskers?
The Bissell has somehow gotten around Dyson’s patent and duplicated the same “venturing cyclonic (what ever that means)” filterless system and sells it to you minus the huge cost of an incredible marketing campaign. You can buy five of the Bissells for the cost of one Dyson and still come out a head in the suction department.
Give one a shot, what have you got to lose.?
Except pounds of dirt?
Click here to buy a Bissell Momentum vacuum from Amazon.com and have it delivered to your door. You don’t even have to leave the comfort of your home and go all the way to the crowded store.
Update: A new model has been introduced, the Bissell Healthy Home Bagless Upright Vacuum.
At $250 or so it’s a complete Dyson knockoff but with a better brush roll, a pile height adjuster and half the price.
Is Carpet Protector Safe?
By · Comments
Until now, in order to protect your carpet, rugs and fine furnishings from spots, stains and premature wear, a hazardous and carcinogenic (cancer causing) chemical had to be applied.
EcoClean Carpet Care now offers a safer alternative to Teflon & Scotchgard, the two big names most everyone else still uses. Not only is it safer but independent trials have shown it to perform better than the competition in stain and soil protection and resistance.
Our earth friendly carpet and upholstery protector does not contain solvents or any known harmful chemicals and is safe enough to be labeled Green. Every single ingredient in our fabric protector has been rated “green” by Synapse Handbook of Green Chemical Raw Ingredients. This is a chemical “Bible” used worldwide to determine the green status of thousands of raw materials before production into a finished product.
Our GREEN Fabric Protector is safer for you and your family, us and our family, and mother earth and her family. It’s also …
Biodegradable- EPA Exempt
- Non-Carninogenic
- Non Hazardous
- Non Toxic
- VOC Free/Low
- Non CFC
- Environmentally Safe
- HAP’s FREE
- Non Ozone Depleting

Ask for Green Fabric Protector to be applied after cleaning when you next schedule an appointment with EcoClean Carpet Care.

2009 SpotMaster – Thomas Cermak
By · Comments2009 SpotMaster Championship
Another Cermak Wins Carpet Spot Removal Championship
Thomas Cermak of Dries in Minutes Carpet Cleaning, Kennesaw Georgia, (and EcoCleans’ Atlanta area rep) earned top honor in the 11th annual Spot Master Championship – The Spot and Stain Removal Competition for Professional Carpet Cleaners.
The champion is chosen by a panel of judges to have removed the most spots and stains while retaining the best final appearance and texture retention.
Cermak, a 30+ year veteran carpet and upholstery cleaning specialist, removed over a dozen of the most challenging spots and stains including grease, mustard, ketchup, syrup, kool-aid, fingernail polish, and ink.
Al Sims, EcoClean’s Connecticut representative was Thomas’ partner in the event.
This years finalists consisted of top cleaning experts from England, Connecticut, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, and Ohio.
Thomas is the third Cermak to win the annual SpotMaster Championship, with his brother Mark winning in 2006 and his sister in law Andrechelle taking the crown in 2007.
This wrapped up a stellar event for Thomas and was further proof as to why he was presented the “2009 Carpet Cleaner of the Year” award the night before.
Mark Cermak of EcoClean Carpet Care (Painesville Ohio) was unanimously re-elected to serve as LMCCA VP, chair of the E-Media Committee for the 2010-11 term at the fall LMCCA (Low Moisture Carpet Cleaners Association) Board of Directors meeting. Andrechelle Cermak of EcoClean Carpet Care (Painesville Ohio) and Andrechelle.com will step down as LMCCA Secretary at the end of this term, to focus more time and energy into her businesses.
LMCCA Becomes IICRC Shareholder
By · CommentsLas Vegas – The LMCCA (Low Moisture Carpet Cleaners Association) becomes an IICRC shareholder.
The LMCCA is a strong and vocal advocate of the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification), including many LMCCA members that are IICRC Instructors, IICRC Master Textile Cleaners, and IICRC Certified Cleaning technicians, it makes perfect sense for the LMCCA to have ownership shares in the IICRC.
Andrechelle Cermak signs the documents to make it official at the LMCCA Board of Directors meeting Sept 10 at Connections in Las Vegas NV. Also pictured IICRC President / Chairman Paul Pearce and LMCCA President Mark Warner.
Attending Carpet Cleaners Events
By · CommentsIn September we will be attending a Carpet Cleaners Conference and Trade Show in Las Vegas as well as a LMCCA (Low Moisture Carpet Cleaners Association) Board of Directors meeting. Then off to Atlanta for another carpet cleaning seminar, a Shaw Carpet Mill tour, another tour of PTL (Professional Testing Labs) and then to the SpotMaster Championship.
We will be closed for a few weeks and referring any incoming regular carpet cleaning to other cleaners in our local network and/or scheduling any work that requires a “Master” (us) for after our return in October.
Training Professional Carpet Cleaners
By · Comments
Andrechelle and I were in Pittsburgh yesterday to lead a training seminar for other professional carpet cleaners @ Pembertons Cleaning & Restoration Learning Center. Lots of bright eyes and good questions from students eager to learn. We love what we do and its a real treat to have the opportunity to share our knowledge and passion with others.
It was a great honor for us to be invited to lead this seminar at the Pembertons Learning Center. Lee and Jim Pemberton are nationally recognized instructors, consultants, speakers and seminar leaders on business, technical and marketing topics.
The Cleaning and Restoration Learning Center is the educational and training division of Pembertons. It was founded to serve the business, technical and professional development needs of cleaning and restoration companies and their employees.

Got a call this afternoon from an upset customer in Eastlake Ohio that we had cleaned carpet for 10 days ago.
She complained of a yellowish spot that had just “appeared” in the last few days and was worried that it had happened outside our “7 day spot free guarantee”. (We were shocked as it was the first complaint, call back, re-do that we’ve had in the 5 years we’ve run this company, since we started in 2004.) She was very upset.
She wanted to schedule but her only day off work in the near future which was Friday the 29th. We assured her that all would be ok (we stand behind our work!) and that we would be there at 7pm TODAY when she got home from work.
Upon arrival we could see the yellowed area from across the room and the distress in her face. We quickly set up our spot removal kit and inspected the tufts and backing with a magnifying tool. No visual residue or soil. Could feel no texture or difference between this yellowed areas and other non affected areas (it was all very very soft).
Checked for residue / wicking with volatile spotter with no transfer on to the spotting towel. pH meter batteries were dead, so just tried a little de-browning agent to check for a pH problem, no result.
While continuing with the inspection and testing, she proceeded to tell us how great everything else we cleaned had turned out. BUT that this one spot was just not acceptable. She stated that it seemed to be getting deeper darker yellow each of the past few days.
I asked her if we could clear the area of furniture and bring in some more light.
Upon moving the sofa, the spot also moved. Seems the unknown yellow spot that appeared in the last few days was … THE SUN! It was a yellow reflection off the green furniture on the now clean, shiny and reflective light beige fibers. We had several gloomy days after cleaning her home, then the last few days the skies have cleared and the sun has made a return appearance in Northeast Ohio, making the “spot” appear to be getting deeper and darker.
The look on her face was PRICELESS! Shock, amazement, relief, embarrassment, gratitude within a second.
She went from very upset, hinting at possibly wanting new carpet, to ecstatic and another definite cheerleader.
I love my “job” (and am happy to be back to 0 complaints, re-do’s, re-services)
